With this series I return to the winter forest, a subject I painted for more than a decade before setting it aside in 2016. Living in Canmore, and watching nearby forests give way to development, has renewed my desire to honour these places. The paintings also reflect the influence of ten years of abstract exploration and my enduring attraction to the quiet power of a largely monochromatic palette. The subject offers complexity and silence; two seemingly contradictory forces brought together through hours of intimate contemplation.
