About the Artist
Biography
In her luminous paintings, Barb Fyvie (b. 1962) renders her intimate contemplations on wilderness experienced in her backyard. Executed with a direct application of oil paint, often on an orange ground, her work achieves an uncanny sense of winter light.
Barb Fyvie was born in Calgary, Alberta. After completing a BFA at the University of Alberta in 1984 she worked in design and education alongside her painting practice. In 2015, she was awarded a Public Art Commission by The Town of Canmore. Barb has been awarded a number of artist residencies and her work can be found in collections across Canada, and in the U.S. and Europe. Alongside her painting practice, Barb mentors emerging artists, teaches painting classes and runs her JoyMakers online expressive arts program.
