In September of 2017 I returned to Fogo Island for the second time. The feeling of belonging swept over me the moment I stepped foot on the island just as it had two years before. Again my work took its cues from the simplicity of the life on Fogo where the islanders are deeply rooted in their connection to this place. While producing nearly 70 small abstract paintings over 2 weeks, I kept coming back to the idea that Fogo Island is a place extraordinarily intimate and grand at the same time. I am so grateful to the folks who hosted us at the TiltingAIR Residency. Fogo continues to feel like home.
