Artist Bio - Barb Fyvie

Barb Fyvie

Barb Fyvie's work is shaped by her coexistence with wilderness where she lives in the Canadian Rockies. Her abstract paintings are explorations that are direct, fluid and intuitive with a focus on colour and surface. A great deal of attention is paid to the materiality of heavy oil paint made heavier with cold wax medium.

Born in Calgary, Fyvie has lived and worked in Canmore for the past 10 years. She completed her BFA at the University of Alberta in 1984. In 2015, she was awarded a Public Art Commission by The Town of Canmore. She is currently represented by the Grant Berg Gallery in Grande Prairie. Her work can be found in collections across Canada, and in the U.S. and Europe.
